At Bemis Custom Plastics, we fully recognize the need to be strong stewards of the environment. Our goal is to use our technology and experience not just to serve our customers, but also to ensure we do right by planet earth.
At Bemis we strive to address sustainability on four fronts:
- Not adding to the waste stream
- Diverting/using materials that would have been discarded by other sources
- Reduce the energy demand in the production of our products
- Utilize and invent processes that minimize or eliminate the need for new raw materials in the products we produce
Since 2001 Bemis's energy conservation projects have displaced 11,509,190 kWh of electricity per year - the equivalent of saving 5,721,753 gallons of gasoline annually. Below are examples of energy conservation efforts made over the years:
Co-existing with Nature
We've enhanced more than 40 acres of our manufacturing environment with walking paths
and open green spaces. We've seeded 10 acres to recreate a natural prairie which we
now proudly share with area residents and native wildlife.
Recycled Plastics
Every injection molding machine we've purchased since 1993 has been a multi-material/co-injection
machine. This has literally allowed us to use millions of pounds of recycled materials that
would otherwise end up in landfills.
Packaging for a Positive Impact
Packaging has a huge impact on the environment. At Bemis, we're focused on reducing, if not
eliminating excess packaging. We're working closely with customers to develop reusable and
returnable packaging. And we're partnering with packaging suppliers to ensure the materials we
use contain more than 75% recycled content, and is 100% recyclable.
It just makes sense - a sustainable environment helps sustain our businesses. Ours and yours alike.
